Possibly written 2/8/2008 after seeing a sad-looking young woman in the mall in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2005 or 2006.
Young Woman in the Mall
Sitting in the plaza,
What do you find?
Sense of insecurity?
No peace of mind?
Looking at the ring
On your left ring finger,
Why over him
Does your mind so linger?
Are you now having
Second thoughts, dear?
Do thoughts of the future
Give you doubts and fear?
I want to give to you
The peace I’ve found in Christ.
Jesus gives true peace;
His love can free your life.
Your sweater is so blue,
Does your heart feel the same?
As you think of the boy,
As you think of his name?
Now I know why,
Perhaps, you look so sad:
That man in the black coat,
Is he good or bad?
Where does he take you?
Are you willing to go?
Does his outward affection,
Happen just to be a show?
Does Death follow closely?
Does Darkness hem you in?
Can you feel the bonds of Hopelessness,
Chain you with its sin?
Are you happy, dear girl?
Is there no chance of escape?
Walk away before,
It’s eternally too late!
Oh, dear girl! Cry to God!
He can help you, though you’re far;
He can tear away the chains,
He can undo every bar!
And though I might not know
If you have been released,
Until I reach the LORD,
In His Heaven with His ease,
I wonder as I write you,
Don’t you really want to be,
Released from your engagement,
With such an one as he?
There is hope, there is true love--
Give your life to the LORD!
He can save you, He can help you,
Just believe in His Word!
Thoughts of you keep coming;
Thoughts of him do, too,
What has happened since I saw,
That lonely picture of you?
So I pray, dear girl,
I pray right now:
“Oh LORD, please help that girl,
As only You know how!”
