The
Princess of the Meadow
(for Emily)
The
Princess of the Meadow
Is a sweet
and godly maid,
She hath a
wreath of locks
Each with
gold o’erlaid.
Her smile
is sweet and gracious,
Her lips
disguise no ill;
She walks
erect with royalty
Her heart
is in God’s will.
Her hands
are prone to dancing
Or to meet
another’s need.
Encouragement
is hers to give—
Many her
sweet words feed.
Clothed
with robes of honor,
With
justice, love, and truth,
She’s like
the Virtuous Woman,
And
diligent like Ruth.
She has no
haughty bearing;
Proud looks
are never worn
Friendship
and love are on her face,
But never
mocking scorn.
Simplistic
is her manner,
Unaffected
is her gait,
She looks
to God for her own Prince
And is
content to wait.
